Top 5 Grilling Mistakes To Avoid For Labor Day Weekend

Ahhh yes, Labor Day. An exciting yet somewhat bittersweet weekend, marking the end of summer and the start of football season. Regardless, one thing is most likely true for 99% of America this weekend: there will be meat getting grilled (sorry, not sorry, vegans). And although you've hopefully been improving your grilling skills over the summer, we've put together some simple yet helpful tips for you to make this Labor Day one to remember (because the food is just so darn good).

Tip #1: Get Quality Meat

A common beginner's mistake is falling for all the "amazing" supermarket deals being pushed on you this week. The saying "you get what you pay for" is extremely true when it comes to meat. If you're in need of a high-quality food source (and want it delivered to your lake house, cabin, or front door), check out Dude Food.

Tip #2: Cook It Low & Slow

If you're grilling, you're obviously hungry. The first thought might be to turn up the heat high and get this cooked fast! Bad idea. You'll end up burning the outside and undercooking the inside. Give it an extra 5 minutes and truly enjoy what you're eating.

Tip #3: Let Your Grill Heat Up

Similar to the above tip, don't just fire it up and throw the meat on. You'll once again end up with a disappointing meal. Let that thing heat up to the correct temperature before adding anything!

Tip #4: Clean Your Grill

Once again, simple and obvious tips, but they're often overlooked. Unless you want that 37-day-old chicken flavor mixed in with your steak, we highly suggest taking 3 minutes to clean your grill before firing it up.

Tip #5: Let It Rest

Another beginner's mistake is devouring that steak the second it comes off the grill. After you finish grilling, let the meat rest for a few minutes before digging in. We know it's tempting to eat it right away, but waiting is definitely worth it.

We told you these tips would be simple and obvious, but when you're a few beers deep, even the simplest things can become a challenge. So, bookmark this article and open it up when you're getting ready to fire up the grill this Labor Day weekend! If you still need meat, make sure you eat 100% American meat this weekend!
