Yes, you read that headline right. Food giant Tyson Foods has acquired a large portion of an insect company that turns bugs into protein. On Tuesday, they announced a stake in Protix, a Netherlands-based insect protein company. They are now working together to build a US factory.
Tyson did state that these "protein bugs" won't be used for human consumption (yet) but rather used for animal proteins such as dog food, chicken feed, and more. However, this should be seen as a large red flag. Reading through multiple different articles published on this topic, it sounds like this is just the start and there is eventual plans for them to start making it for human consumption. Ridiculous right? I agree. However, I said the same about "plant based protein" and that truly did come to fruition (even though its failing now).
The rise of insect proteins
Over the past few years, insect proteins have been pushed by multiple giant corporations and news outlets in the name of sustainability. They claim that bugs are a healthier and more sustainable source of protein. Some news outlets have even gone as far as hiring chefs to cook "delicious" meals with bugs. If you have not looked into it, I highly encourage you to do so. Its disturbing to say the least.
Why this is extremely concerning
I don't think this needs too much of an explanation as to why this would be concerning to the average American. Are we really going to believe these media outlets and giant corporations that bugs are truly healthier and have our best interest in mind? It's actually insulting how dumb they think people are. No one is truly on board with this. If you are, best of luck. Have fun eating your bugs. I'll be enjoying my steak and chicken.
Don't freak out; there is a solution
There will continue to be articles written and videos published trying to get you to go along with this nonsense. However, in order to combat this issue and truly say NO, we have to be conscious of where our money is being spent. As we saw with Bud Light earlier this year, we the people can truly make an impact. The best way to stand up against this is to stop buying from corporations like this and spend your money with local American farmers. Whether it's someone you know down the road or you buy from a business like us (who works directly with family operations), you can be satisfied knowing you will have a reliable source of real protein.
